چکیده

Electronic spectra are reported for the metal cluster (Tef) and metal cluster complex (Ag+-benzene, Mg'-C02) cations. These ions are generated by laser vaporization in a pulsed nozzle source, jet-cooled, mass-selected with a reflectron time-of-flight spectrometer, and dissociated on resonance with a tunable dye laser. Electronic excitation spectra are recorded by monitoring the appearance of the fragment-ion channel(s) as the dissociation laser is tuned through electronic and/or vibronic resonances. Analysis of these new spectra yields vibrational constants, binding energetics and evidence for new photochemistry in these novel ion systems.

Resonance-enhanced Photodissociation Spectroscopy of Mass-selected Metal Cluster Cations

Vibrationally resolved electronic spectra are reported for the diatomic cations Tel and Bi: using the technique of resonance-enhanced photodissociation spectroscopy (REPD). These ions are generated by laser vaporization in a pulsed nozzle source, jet-cooled, mass-selected with a reflectron time-of-flight spectrometer, and dissociated on resonance with a tunable dye laser. Electronic excitation ...

IR photodissociation spectroscopy and theory of Au+(CO)n complexes: nonclassical carbonyls in the gas phase.

Au+(CO)n complexes are produced in the gas phase via pulsed laser vaporization, expanded in a supersonic jet, and detected with a reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Complexes up to n = 12 are observed, with mass channels corresponding to the n = 2 and n = 4 showing enhanced intensity. To investigate coordination and structure, individual complexes are mass-selected and probed with inf...

Spectroscopy of metal ion complexes: gas-phase models for solvation.

Weakly bound metal ion complexes are produced in molecular beams and studied with mass-selected laser photodissociation spectroscopy. The metal ions Mg+ and Ca+ are the focus of these studies because they have a single valence electron and strong atomic resonance lines in convenient wavelength regions. Weakly bound complexes of these ions with rare-gas atoms and small molecules are prepared wit...

Vibrational spectroscopy and density functional theory of transition-metal ion-benzene and dibenzene complexes in the gas phase.

Metal-benzene complexes of the form M(benzene)(n) (M = Ti, V, Fe, Co, Ni) are produced in the gas-phase environment of a molecular beam by laser vaporization in a pulsed nozzle cluster source. These complexes are photoionized with an ArF excimer laser, producing the corresponding cations. The respective mono- and dibenzene complex ions are isolated in an ion-trap mass spectrometer and studied w...

Infrared spectroscopy to probe structure and dynamics in metal ion–molecule complexes

Vibrational spectroscopy measurements are described for mass-selected metal cation–molecular complexes using the technique of infrared resonance-enhanced photodissociation (REPD) spectroscopy. We discuss the mechanism of the REPD process in the infrared and how multiphoton techniques or rare gas tagging can be employed to facilitate dissociation processes in strongly bound complexes. Spectra ar...
